RE: Parking trailer on a garden for the winter

Good grief, I've been parking my TTs (4 of them) on a dirt surface for the past 35 years with absolutely no discernible problems. Hey, nothing wrong with parking on boards, concrete, pavement or whatever, but when it comes right down to it, I don't think it makes a dime's worth of difference.

RE: winterization help

RFD, I don't pour the pink stuff into my fresh water tank. That would be a pain to flush in the spring & even if a little water remains in the tank, there's plenty of room for expansion so that freezing is no problem. As far as the water heater is concerned, you can buy a bypass kit very reasonably, which in the long run would be a whole lot cheaper than unnecessarily filling it with 6 gal. of antifreeze year after year.

RE: Did you buy the right TT???

We're 95% happy with our present TT. If we could do it over we'd perhaps go for a regular dinette rather than table & chairs for additional sleeping for grandkids. Other than that, its pretty much everything we could want.

RE: Opinion: sway bar or no sway bar

I believe seat belts saved my life in an unexpected accident a year & a half ago. Likewise, sway control may save your life in the event of an unexpected crisis. Its cheap insurance. I can't imagine why one would be without it.

RE: does everyone want an Airstream?

I have no desire to own an Airstream. I'm more than happy with my Designer.

RE: Does Gulfstream make a good trailer?

Hey, I don't own one, but just on the basis of looking through a few of their units on dealer lots, Gulfstream would not be high on my shopping list. My observations are similar to those of soren - fit & finish problems, big gaps in trim generously slathered with gobs of putty, etc.

RE: which power jack?

Like they said - - - most are happy & well-served by either one. In my particular case my Barker 3500 died after about 4 seasons. I replaced it with an Atwood which so far has worked like a charm (but then so did the Barker for the first several seasons!).

RE: Awning over slide how much are they? any reason not to?

In short: get 'em. The long slide awnings do pool water. The fix is simple. When the rain is over, retract & then re-extend the awning & presto, the water is gone. I've NEVER had debris blown underneath the awning, & if you know Nebraska, its a windy state! I wouldn't be without 'em.

RE: slide outs

2 slides in my 6 yr. old Jayco Designer TT - never a leak whether retracted or extended. Wouldn't be without slides. I do have slide awnings which adds an additional layer of leak protection.

RE: How to attach a thermometer to record exterior temps

I simply place my wireless transmitter on top of a support beam under my living room slide. Its protected there from sunlight & wind, & so far I haven't fogotten to bring it inside when traveling!

RE: Fibreglass vs. Aluminum?

Both aluminum & fiberglass have their advocates & for legitimate reasons. I have a 6 yr. old gel-coat glass TT with absolutely no sign of delamination. I like the way it looks & its a much better choice in a hail-prone area.

RE: Keeping TT level during the winter???

I think you'll be fine doing it as you are. That way the TT is level at all times for running the fridge. If you didn't keep it level, you'd have to re-level the trailer each time you wanted to fire up the fridge.

RE: How to find a Jayco 29A?

A number of years ago I was looking for a certain Jayco Designer model. If I recall, I believe I contacted the factory & asked which dealers within a reasonable distance might have the TT I was looking for. They have records of which models go out to which dealers. If you decide to buy new, give Connely's Campers of Broken Bow a chance. They sold me my TT for $5000 less than Apache Campers of Bellevue wanted. By the way, welcome to the forum from a fellow Nebraskan!

RE: new to RVing

Our TT has a table & chairs as opposed to a standard dinette. While we like the table & chairs in general, there are times when we take grandkiddies along that we wish we had a dinette that would convert into extra sleeping space - - - a factor you might want to consider.

RE: Thermopane VS. Storm windows

If you're ordering a new unit, I'd certainly recommend that you go with thermo pane windows. I have them in my '03 Jayco Designer & I'm more than happy with them. In colder weather I never have a condensation problem, & they provide an extra layer of sound insulation as well. They're a little pricey, but well worth it IMO.

RE: trailer batteries not charging up while underway

All 4 of my TTs have been set up to charge batteries while underway, dating back to my original '71 Roadrunner.
